How to Compress an Image to 20KB–50KB

The 20–50 KB target is a general form utility setting, not a TNPSC requirement. This site measures KB using 1,024 bytes and also shows exact bytes.

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
  2. Set the width, height and output format required by your form.
  3. Crop and zoom to frame the subject.
  4. Process and check whether the output matches the selected KB range.
  5. Download and reopen the file to confirm dimensions, format and actual size.

Why Exact File Size Can Be Difficult

Pixel count, image detail and output format affect bytes. The processor resizes first, then searches a bounded set of compression quality values. It aims for the selected range, not an exact number; if that range is impossible it reports a failed check rather than adding artificial padding.

Common Uses for 20KB–50KB Images

Use this tool for exam photos and application-form images when the form asks for this range. It is not proof that a specific examination accepts these settings. Check any content, background or text instructions too.

How Compression Affects Quality

Lower JPEG or WebP quality can reduce detail, especially around faces and text. PNG is lossless and may remain larger than the target. Use the format required by the form and review the saved image for clarity; change dimensions only if the application permits it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image between 20KB and 50KB?

Upload an image, set dimensions and output format, crop it and process. The tool targets the selected range and shows actual bytes. Download only after checking the result and your form’s instructions.

Can the tool guarantee an exact file size?

No. File size depends on detail, dimensions and format. The tool aims for a range with a bounded search and reports when the target cannot be met. It does not pad a file to fabricate compliance.

What happens if the original image is too small?

A small or simple image may stay below 20 KB even at full quality. The result explains the minimum-size failure. Use a more detailed original or permitted dimensions rather than stretching a low-resolution photo.

Which format gives the smallest file size?

There is no universal answer. JPEG and WebP support lossy compression; PNG preserves transparency and is lossless, so it may be larger. Use your application’s required format rather than choosing on size alone.

Is my image uploaded?

Your images are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to our server. No registration is needed, and the site does not save your image.

Can I use this for exam application forms?

Yes, when the selected dimensions, KB and format match your form. This is a general exam utility, not an official TNPSC preset or a guarantee of acceptance.
