TNPSC Photo Size 2026
Understand TNPSC general image guidance versus Group IV 2026 photo and signature rules, with official sources, pixel dimensions, KB limits and name/date instructions.
By TNPSC Photo · Published · Updated
Quick Answer
For Group IV 2026, Notification No. 11/2026 specifies a 130 × 170 px, 20–50 KB, JPEG photograph with the candidate’s name and actual photography date at the bottom. Annexure I §§3.3–3.6, pages 24–25, is the recruitment-specific source. The general portal resize guide uses different ranges, so identify your application before choosing a size.
Three sources answer different questions
There is no single number that should be applied to every TNPSC image upload. A portal resize guide explains its general workflow; applicant instructions describe preparation; a recruitment notification gives rules for that application. Read the source and its scope together.
| Source | Image settings | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| TNPSC general resize guide | 300–400 px horizontal, 250–400 px vertical, below 50 KB, JPG/JPEG | General portal guidance; minimum KB not stated |
| Group IV Notification No. 11/2026 | 130 × 170 px, 20–50 KB, JPEG | Application photograph; bottom name/date required |
| TNPSC Instructions to Applicants | 230 × 75 px, 10–20 KB, JPEG | Signature preparation; check the active recruitment |

What the Group IV 2026 photograph includes
Annexure I §3.3 requires a colour studio photograph on white, taken on or after 6 October 2026, with a front view showing both ears and the neck. The bottom area carries the candidate’s name and actual date of photography. The full image is 130 × 170 px: a 115 px photo area plus a 55 px name/date area.
Section 3.4 describes 200 DPI scanning, 20–50 KB and the filename Photograph.jpg. Pixel dimensions and DPI are different properties. Our compressor reliably checks pixels, bytes and format; it does not write DPI metadata, verify studio origin or generate this exact text-strip layout. Start with a prepared complete photograph and preserve it when cropping.
Why 300 × 400, 125 × 165 and 130 × 170 appear online
Different recruitment notices, older instructions and general guidance can describe different targets. A fixed size may also be a tool’s convenient default rather than a quoted official rule. Third-party summaries sometimes combine these contexts without identifying which notification they apply to.
For example, 400 × 400 lies inside the general guide’s ranges, while 130 × 170 is the specific Group IV value cited here. That does not establish an official basis for every other number you encounter. Follow the active first-party notice and any amendments rather than averaging conflicting dimensions.
Prepare the signature as a separate file
Group IV §3.5 specifies 230 × 75 px, 10–20 KB, saved as Signature.jpg. Applicant instructions also describe 230 × 75 px, 10–20 KB, JPEG, a 6.0 × 2.0 cm box on white paper, blue or black ink and 200 DPI scanning. A photograph’s larger file-size allowance is not a signature allowance.
Check the file you will actually submit
Our tools show KB using 1,024 bytes. Leave a margin below a strict “below” limit rather than relying on a rounded KB display. Images remain in your browser while using these tools; uploading the saved file to TNPSC is a separate action you perform.
- Read the current notification and any amendment; identify photo and signature limits separately.
- Reopen the final download and inspect width, height, actual format and bytes.
- Check clarity, complete name/date layout where required, and the actual photography date.
- Select the newly downloaded file in the portal; passing an encoding check cannot guarantee acceptance.
