TNPSC Photo with Name and Date
Understand the actual photography date and bottom name/date layout required by Group IV 2026, with official clauses and checks for long names and final downloads.

Quick Answer
When the instructions request the date of photography, enter the date the photograph was actually taken, not today’s date by default. Group IV Notification No. 11/2026, Annexure I §3.3, requires the candidate’s name and photography date at the bottom and a photograph taken on or after 6 October 2026. That verified rule does not establish one universal layout for every TNPSC application.
Photography date is different from application date
Suppose you had a studio photograph taken on one day and completed your form several days later. If the notice asks for the date of photography, the first date belongs on the image. The day you edit, download or upload it does not change when the photograph was taken.
Today’s date is appropriate only when it is also the actual capture date. For Group IV 2026, the required on-or-after date is 6 October 2026; typing a later date onto an older photograph does not make it recent. The tool accepts a date for rendering and cannot verify the original capture.
Where the name and date belong in Group IV 2026
Annexure I §§3.3–3.4 describes a full 130 × 170 px photograph containing a 115 px-high photo area and 55 px bottom name/date area, saved as Photograph.jpg at 20–50 KB. Use the spelling required by your application and keep the text separate from the face.
The general Name & Date Maker adds a readable bottom strip using its existing layout. It does not reproduce this exact 55 px Group IV layout. For that recruitment, start with a correctly prepared complete photograph before using the Group 4 crop/resize tool; preserve the entire strip in the crop.
A long name must remain readable
Review the complete name after export, including its first and last letters. A narrow image can make a long name too small even when nothing is cut off. Do not arbitrarily omit required parts of your name to force a fit; use only a spelling or abbreviation permitted by the application.
The maker fits text within the available space and reports an error if it cannot keep it readable. It does not silently truncate the name. Reopen the downloaded JPEG to inspect the text and date rather than relying on the preview alone.
Does every TNPSC application need the same strip?
No universal name/date mandate follows from the general resize guideline. The requirement discussed here is verified for Group IV 2026. Another recruitment or workflow may ask for a different photograph or layout, so read the active notice before adding text.
Keep the source type and verification date in view. If a newer amendment changes image preparation, follow it rather than treating a previously verified preset as permanent. The size guide brings first-party sources together without merging their requirements.

Check the final photograph as a whole
A successful encoding check is useful, but it cannot verify the truth of a date, studio origin or TNPSC acceptance. Image editing happens locally in the browser; submitting the file is your separate action on the official portal.
- Confirm the candidate name and actual photography date against the active instructions.
- Inspect the prescribed photo/text areas and ensure cropping did not remove any text.
- Check final dimensions, format and bytes after the strip is present.
- Reopen the downloaded file at full size and select that final version for upload.
